The Business Magazine Listings 2012
The Business Magazine compiles a series of annual listings based on turnover. The listings rank companies according to records held at Companies House, using sources such as Experian and OneSource.
Companies that appear in our listings – Thames Valley 250, Solent 250, SME 100 and Southern Tech 100 – are private, independent businesses with their headquarters in our circulation area. Public companies and organisations listed on a foreign stock exchange are excluded, as are local subsidiaries of foreign-owned businesses.
Selected companies listed in each of the groupings are invited to events, and the rankings appear in The Business Magazine as follows:
- February issue: Southern Tech 100
- July/Aug issue: Thames Valley 250
- November issue: Solent 250
- November issue: Thames Valley SME 100
The Thames Valley 250
The Thames Valley 250 is a list of the top private companies in the region. Only businesses that have their head office in the area, and are either home-grown or who have moved into the region from outside, are listed. Subsidiaries of foreign companies, and UK holding companies are ineligible, as are those that only have their registered address in the area. Companies are ranked by turnover. Sponsored by business advisers Grant Thornton, HSBC, and law firm Blandy & Blandy LLP, the Thames Valley 250 will be a highly-anticipated annual listing of private businesses.
Thames Valley SME 100
The SME 100 is a Thames Valley listing of the top SMEs, and is sponsored by business adviser Haines Watts, law firm Clifton Ingram, and Santander Corporate Banking. It covers Thames Valley private businesses below £10 million turnover.
Solent 250
The Solent 250, sponsored by business adviser Grant Thornton, law firm Paris Smith, and Santander Corporate Banking groups together the top private companies in the Solent region, with a combined turnover of some £11 billion.
Southern Tech 100
The Southern Tech 100 is a grouping of the top private technology businesses in the south. Sponsored by Barclays Corporate, law firm Pitmans and business adviser James Cowper, the Tech 100 is now in its second year, and shows a combined sales figure for the top private independent tech companies of £5.2 billion.
