South East: Firms make shortlist in Growth Business Awards

28/10/2011

Hampshire-based eco-lighting producer PhotonStar LED has been named in the shortlist for the prestigious Growing Business Awards 2011, which will kick-start Global Entrepreneurship Week on 14 November.

Created by Real Business and the CBI in 1999, the Growing Business Awards are the most established recognition for UK independent and entrepreneurial businesses. This year the awards are the centrepiece event in a global week of enterprise activity and are being supported by a new research partner, Cass Business School, as well as Coutts, Visa, Land Rover and Bird & Bird. Keynote speaker at the 2011 Growing Business Awards will be Enterprise Minister, Mark Prisk.

PhotoStar LED, based in Romsey, is in the running for the Made in Britain award alongside Thomas Lyte, Peratech, Protomed, Ra’alloy Ramps and Burt’s Potato Chips. It was recognised for being a leading producer of high quality, sustainable LED lighting solutions in the UK.

Also representing south east business is Oxfordshire-based baby food producer, Ella’s Kitchen and Berkshire-based theme park technology company, Lo-Q, which are both in the running for International Business of the Year.

John Cridland, CBI director-general, said: "The UK’s economic recovery will be hugely dependant on building and growing new innovative businesses which create jobs and new export opportunities. I congratulate all of the entrepreneurs who have made it on to this year’s very impressive shortlist."

Matthew Rock, co-founder of Real Business magazine, said: "The UK faces a national enterprise emergency, so this year’s record number – and superb quality – of Growing Business Awards nominations gives us real hope for the future.

"In critical areas – such as digital innovation, international business and young enterprise – Britain really does have some world-class role models. Let’s shout from the rooftops about their success, and give them all the support they need to prosper and generate future prosperity."

The Growing Business Awards are attended by many of the UK’s most successful entrepreneurs. This year’s awards take place on the opening day of Global Entrepreneurship Week, Monday 14 November 2011, at the London Marriott Hotel, Grosvenor Square.
