Reading: Business guru advises on working cross-border

03 Feb 2010

Speaker Allyson Stewart-Allen outlines culture differences across the Atlantic.

Renowned business guru Allyson Stewart-Allen was the guest speaker at the second in the series of Business Breakfasts run by The Business Magazine.

In partnership with the venue, the Royal Berkshire Conference Centre, and sponsored by Manches solicitors, the event brought together more than 50 business leaders last month.

Stewart-Allen, author of the best-selling book, Working with Americans, spoke about working across cultures.

She said there were numerous examples of where companies had got it wrong when they tried to impose their products or policies on another country’s marketplace. Pret a Manger, Bank of America, McLaren Prams were three companies that, she claimed had made fundamental mistakes.

John Castell, partner at Manches, the Reading and Oxford law firm, introduced Stewart-Allen.

Each Business Breakfast, which is free to attendees, is sponsored by a different organisation allowing the sponsor to help pick a quality speaker and invite 30 of its own guests to the event. The next breakfast is planned for April.

Anyone interested in sponsoring a future breakfast, or attending as a guest, should contact Tanya Liddiard at tanya@elcot.co.uk
