Berkshire: Vineyard Group to oversee development of new 40-bedroom hotel
A Bath hotel, previously known as the Carfax, has ceased trading and closed its doors. It will re-open as a boutique hotel in the late summer of 2015 following extensive refurbishment.
The hotel in Great Pulteney Street was formerly owned by the Salvation Army. It has been acquired by Italian-based property company Geco Spa after going on the market for £3.25 million through agents Knight Frank.
Andrew McKenzie, managing director of the Vineyard Group, which owns the Vineyard and Donnington Valley hotels near Newbury, Berkshire, said the Bath property would likely be the first in a group of several city-centre hotels.
As well as owning the Vineyard and Donnington Valley hotels and a Californian wine business, the Vineyard Group currently also manages three hotels: the Barns hotel, Bedford; Brownsover Hall, Rugby; and the King’s Head, Circencester.
