Guildford: G3 Futures event set to galvanise the gaming industry
Building on last year’s success, a second G3 Futures event, aimed at galvanising the Guildford-based games industry, will take place at the University’s 5G Innovation Centre on June 29.
The free event, organised by The University of Surrey, UKIE (UK Interactive Entertainment trade body) and technology law specialist Charles Russell Speechlys, will provide an opportunity for local gaming companies to network as well as to learn about the latest innovations from keynote speakers and a panel of industry experts. The aim is to help Guildford, often referred to as “the Hollywood of the games industry”, maintain its reputation as a major technology and games hub.
Last year over 160 Guildford-based games developers, representatives from local gaming studios and academics from the University of Surrey attended. This year, key topics will include virtual reality and immersive content; and the University will host an Expo, showcasing its latest R&D, including 5G mobile, spatial audio and performance capture as well as work done in relevant degree programmes.
Nick Hurley, partner at Charles Russell Speechlys, said: “Guildford has a proliferation of gaming studios and independent developers who have made games enjoyed by millions of people worldwide. It’s important that we value the contribution this makes to our economy and support the local gaming community.”
