Portsmouth: America’s Cup World Series – gearing up for 2016
Organisers of The 2015 Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series have been gathering feedback and analysing data from the event – with the aim of understanding the audience needs – to create an even more spectacular event next year. The 2016 event will take place in Portsmouth from July 21-24.
2015: The story in numbers
- 245,460 spectators over the four days in Portsmouth
- 139,086 attended on 'Big Saturday' – July 25
- 88% of non-residents likely to return again to Portsmouth for a day trip
- Over 25,000 spectators on the water
- 3,250 team, event and locally-employed staff worked on-site
- 118 media outlets attended the event
- 1,500 guests in hospitality pavilion
- 115 major sponsors, partners, suppliers and exhibitors present
- Hospitality, 'Fanzone' and grandstand areas sold out to capacity on Saturday and Sunday
- 250 Wavemaker volunteers
- All hotels fully booked in Portsmouth
- 100,000m2 of official race village
- Land Rover BAR won the first Louis Vuitton America's Cup World Series event in their home country.
Gothenburg and Bermuda
The second event in the 2015 series was held between on August 28-30 in Gothenburg, Sweden. With a race village in the heart of the city centre and a race course set among some stunning islands and a scenic backdrop, the six teams battled it out in a range of conditions. Emirates Team New Zealand emerged as victors followed by Oracle Team USA and Land Rover BAR in third place.
The third and final event for 2015 takes place in Bermuda from October 16-18.
