Portsmouth: City comes top for rise in job opportunities
If you’re considering your next career move then now could be the perfect time. New data from CV-Library, the UK’s leading independent job site, has revealed that Portsmouth experienced a job boom in the last quarter, suggesting that there are plenty of career opportunities in the city.
The study, which compared Q3 job market data with that of the same period last year, found that Portsmouth witnessed a staggering 35.9% increase in advertised vacancies over the past 12 months. Far outpacing the national growth of 12.2%, Portsmouth made the list of the top 10 locations to find a job in right now. Others include:
- Portsmouth – 35.9%
- Brighton – 33.3%
- London – 25.8%
- Bristol – 22.5%
- Sheffield – 22.2%
- Aberdeen – 20.6%
- Edinburgh – 20.3%
- Leeds – 14.7%
- Manchester – 13.8%
- Glasgow – 12.5%
Lee Biggins, founder and managing director of CV-Library, commented: “It’s great to see that employers in Portsmouth are remaining positive in the face of uncertainty, and that they continued to drive their recruitment efforts in the last quarter. This is particularly good news for local job hunters and anyone who may be looking for their next role. If you’re starting to get itchy feet and feel like it could be time to make your next career move, there are an abundance of opportunities in this great city right now.”
And there’s more good news for local job hunters. Not only has Portsmouth experienced a job boom, but salaries in the city are also on the rise. In fact, advertised salaries saw an increase of 0.5% when comparing year-on-year data.
Biggins concluded: “It’s clear from the data that not only are businesses in Portsmouth continuing to invest in their workforce, but they also recognise the need to offer competitive salaries in order to attract talented candidates. If you are looking for a new role, this further confirms that now is the perfect time to do so, especially if you’re looking to boost your pay packet.”
