Portsmouth: McAndrew Martin’s toilet block conversion scoops design award
An innovative project by McAndrew Martin to convert a disused toilet block at Drayton into new headquarters for Brewers Sales and Lettings has scooped honours at the Portsmouth Society’s Design Awards. The judges named the two-storey development as among the best buildings in Portsmouth when they awarded it a commendation in the Best Re-Use category.
The former conveniences shared the limelight with such landmark projects as the LandRover BAR Building in Old Portsmouth and the Boathouse 4 project for the Portsmouth Naval Base Property Trust which won the Best Re-Use category.
James Bengree, McAndrew Martin director of architecture who did the design, said: “This recognition shows the value of high quality, innovative schemes to the urban environment, community and local economy.”
Daryn Brewer, Brewers managing director, added: “It is great that the Portsmouth Society has recognised our regeneration of a disused building with a high-quality scheme.”
