Portsmouth: University offers free degree-tuition for aspiring managers
The University of Portsmouth is offering a free tuition-fee route to a degree for aspiring managers. The new BA (Hons) in business leadership and management has been developed in response to the recent government ‘Degree Apprenticeship’ initiative, designed to address shortages of qualified managers. The University has significant government funding for the initiative which means that with the support of the employing organisation, students can gain an honours degree on a day-release arrangement over three years without incurring any tuition-fee debt.
Becky Quew-Jones, course leader, explained: “Very early on Degree Apprenticeship students will find they are making valuable extra contributions to the success of their organisation, as they learn both the latest business practices and gain practical skills. At the end of three years, students will not only be awarded a BA (Hons) Business Leadership and Management degree, but also a qualification from the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and apprenticeship certification.
She added: “According to the CMI, three-quarters of UK organisations want to employ graduates who hold professional qualifications, so students on the programme will be future-proofing their career opportunities with this degree and continued CMI membership.”
The degree apprenticeship commences in late September.
