The Institute for Environmental Analytics (IEA), based at the University of Reading, has formed a partnership with two additional groups, the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (CEH) which has a site in Wallingford and BuroHappold Engineering, as it continues to grow its collaborative projects in environmental data analytics. The additions bring the institutes total partnership to 18 as it approaches its first anniversary in June.

CEH is a world-class research organisation focusing on land and freshwater ecosystems and their interaction with the atmosphere. Its extensive, long-term monitoring, analysis and modelling deliver UK and global environmental data, providing early warnings of change, and management solutions for land and freshwaters. Its NERC centre has over 425 researchers and students based at sites in England, Scotland and Wales.

BuroHappold Engineering is an independent, international engineering practice which over the past 40 years has become synonymous with the delivery by its global community of driven, world-leading engineering professionals of creative, value-led building and city solutions for an ever-changing world.

Colin McKinnon, IEA CEO, said: “We’re really excited to welcome two influential and expert organisations as new IEA Partners. We hope to work closely on joint projects with them over the coming years to exploit the value in environmental data. We are always keen to encourage organisations which see the potential of using data analytics to tackle environmental challenges to become part of our partner network.”

Dr Nick Wells, director of impact and innovation at CEH, said: “Research impact will be enhanced by drawing on our comprehensive, long-term, large-scale datasets, and our hydrological, biogeochemical and ecological modelling capabilities.”

Dr Shrikant Sharma, group director at BuroHappold Engineering, said: “We help shape the world around us by designing buildings, neighbourhoods and entire cities to suit people’s needs. The field of technology and data is becoming increasingly important to understand, assess and optimise this world, and we see our collaboration with IEA and its partners as a significant step in this journey, through data acquisition, analysis, visualisation, and predictive modelling.”
