South coast: Magic Circle litigator appointed at Coffin Mew Solicitors
Coffin Mew Solicitors has strengthened its practice with the appointment of ex-Magic Circle firm litigator James Russell, who joins as partner and head of dispute resolution.
Russell is a commercial litigator with particular experience across all aspects of complex commercial litigation and dispute resolution, including cross-border proceedings. He is also a solicitor-advocate with rights to appear in all Higher Courts (civil).
Recent legal cases that have been led by Russell include:
· acting for a UK-based property developer in defence of a multi-million pound breach and trust and fraud proceedings before the Guernsey court;
· acting for a high-profile law firm in defence of misrepresentation and unfair prejudice proceedings brought by a former LLP member;
· acting for accountancy and taxation professionals in a restrictive covenant dispute and other 'team move' disputes;
· acting for the directors of an international technology company in defence of claims in misfeasance;
· acting for various directors in defence of claims in insolvency and disqualification proceedings, breach of warranty claims (appearing as advocate) and related professional negligence proceedings against solicitors.
Russell joins Coffin Mew from Wilsons where he was a partner, having previously worked as a director at leading litigation boutique Mark Humphries Legal. He trained and practised in the litigation and arbitration group of Linklaters for a number of years.
Coffin Mew’s managing partner Miles Brown said: “We have a strong litigation practice that covers the south coast and James' appointment further strengthens our depth of talent in what is an important area for our clients. I’m delighted to welcome such a strong litigator to the firm.”
Russell commented: “I am very pleased to be joining Coffin Mew. It’s an ambitious firm with an outstanding reputation in the market and an excellent fit for my practice. I look forward to expanding the depth and breadth of our capabilities and strengthening the team further.”
Russell is highly regarded by clients and colleagues, and is listed in 'The Legal 500' and 'Thomson Reuters London Super Lawyers' directories.
