South: Pitmans hosts 'HR hot topics made palatable’ seminars for HR managers
Pitmans LLP is inviting HR managers and directors in the London and Southampton areas to its exclusive seminar: 'HR hot topics made palatable – the latest on holiday pay and parental leave’. The event will be held at 1 Crown Court, London, on November 6, and again at Jury’s Inn, Southampton, on November 13, starting at 4pm.
Jonathan Gray, a partner in Pitmans’ employment department, will cover some of the following topics:
Holiday pay headache – pain relief advice and debate for dealing with commission and overtime in holiday
• Since the demise of rolled-up holiday pay workers are expected to be off work when taking their holiday entitlement. Calculating what a holidaying worker gets paid while on holiday is easy if they are on fixed pay. Not so when the holidaying worker also earns commission and overtime payments. What should they be paid while they are away? Gray will address this difficult issue and present possible solutions for consideration.
Shared parental leave – what you need to know and how to get ready
• Shared parental leave (SPL) is intended to provide a framework to support modern working families and allow them to balance childcare responsibilities. The regulations are due to come in force on December 1, 2014, and will apply to employees who are expecting babies or adopting on or after April 5, 2015. It is important that employers are gearing up for the changes now, particularly as from January 2015 employers will begin to receive notices from employees of their intention to take SPL. Gray will explain what SPL is, how it will work in practice and what to do to be ready.
Optional third topic – what is a hot topic for you?
If there is time at the event, Gray will present on one of the following topics based on your vote.
• Latest on TUPE – have the updated TUPE regulations and recent case law made it more or less likely that a transfer of an undertaking will be found to have happened?
• Restrictive covenants – are these still worth having and, if so, how do you make sure they work?
• Flexible working/family friendly – an update on the latest rights?
The seminar is eligible for two hours of CPD.
After the presentations there will be time for networking and refreshments.
