Fareham: Waste company has best ever month

The credit crunch gloom is far from the doors of Fareham-based national waste management company, HIPPOWASTE, after the company celebrated its best month of trading ever in its six year history.

Over 14,000 bright yellow HIPPOBAGs were booked in for collection from homes, construction sites and workplaces in June, meaning the company is anticipating bags of success in the future.

Indeed since March the company has seen the strongest months in the history of the HIPPOBAG. More business users than ever have adopted the flexible waste container and, with the recession putting people off moving home and choosing instead to improve, April proved to be an outstanding month for HIPPOBAG orders during the Easter DIY period.

An exceptionally strong polypropylene bag and alternative to a skip, the HIPPOBAG can hold large amounts of waste. The varying sizes are ideal for projects where space is restricted or where waste needs to be removed quickly and easily. Once full, the bag and its contents are collected, taken away and disposed of in a responsible way via the HIPPOWASTE collection service with an average of over 80 percent of materials recycled.

Stephen Noar, executive chairman of HIPPOWASTE, explains how the company is managing to buck the current national economic downwards trend:

“Generally, people are thinking more carefully about the true cost of waste disposal and aren’t willing to pay for unused space in a skip. They’re also aware of the risks of cutting corners by using an unlicensed carrier and, with the emphasis these days on finding a green solution, HIPPOWASTE’s environmental credentials are proving to be an increasingly attractive option.”

With their customers in mind, HIPPOWASTE has managed to hold its retail collection prices this year, whilst increasing the multibag discounts. This has coincided with skip companies having to raise their prices in the face of fuel and landfill tax rises.

In the commercial sector, business is growing every year and, from a standing start in 2005, it now represents more than 70%  of HIPPOWASTE activity.

Noar added: “Thanks to the boom in home improvements, the strongest growth in the commercial sector this year is due to the increase in the installations of kitchens, bathrooms and central heating. The amount of waste that these jobs generate wouldn’t usually fill a skip, so a HIPPOBAG makes much more practical and economic sense and gives the customer more control over their waste management. HIPPOWASTE is the only company that offers this flexible bag solution nationwide.”
