Competing as a Thames Valley young entrepreneur
In this, the season of summer holidays and exam results, many young people will be at a crossroads; university will be the goal for some, while others may be considering apprenticeships – and an intrepid number will start their own businesses
Young entrepreneurs are vital to our economy – they’re the next generation of business leaders. The Thames Valley has many talented company owners who are proving that success can be attained at a very early stage.
Last year’s winner of our Haines Watts Young Entrepreneur of the Year competition, Oxfordshire’s Dan Greenall, was 17 when he started trading and our other 2016 finalists were all in their 20s when they ventured into business.
Jane Gregory of Haines Watts, said: “We started the Young Entrepreneur of the Year competition to provide support to people like them. What has struck us is the confidence that they have – they are extremely driven and determined to succeed. But while running your own business is the right choice for some it has to be done with care and planning. Haines Watts aims to offer help through both the competition and via the practical business advice that we give our clients – our door is always open.”
The HWYE competition is for young entrepreneurs from around the Thames Valley area (including Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Oxfordshire and Surrey).
Each winning local business chosen to attend this year’s finals on November 16 will receive a cash prize, a year-long mentoring programme with a partner from Haines Watts and free publicity*.
Entry is free – just go online at hwye.co.uk and provide some details about your company and why it should win. Applicants must have been in business for over a year but there is no lower age limit.
So, if you or someone you know is a young entrepreneur, why not show us and the Thames Valley what you can do and enter the competition?
