Having worked on 13 separate transactions in his first year, it is fair to say that Thames Valley due diligence veteran Bob Alsop has had a busy start to his career at national audit, tax and advisory firm, Crowe Clark Whitehill LLP.

Alsop said: “It’s been an amazing year. We’ve completed full scope financial and tax due diligence on two corporate buy-sides, three private equity backed transactions, and two national charity mergers. We have also carried out a selection of pre-lend reviews, business valuations, and employer covenant reviews (in respect of defined benefit pension schemes).

“Because I was setting up the team from scratch, I had planned for my first year to be mainly one of building capability and excellence in the provision of robust, relevant and insightful due diligence and deal advice in our Thames Valley office. However, the level of activity seen in the Thames Valley deal community this past year, and the support I have received from it, means that we have far exceeded this initial goal. This also goes to demonstrate further the vibrancy of the region and the business community in which we choose to work.

“We have grown the due diligence team to five over the course of the year, and are looking to accelerate our recruitment plans in order to support an anticipated growth in activity levels in 2018/2019. All greatly contributing to our aspiration of being the long-term trusted adviser of choice in our chosen markets with the organisations we work with.”

But growth at Crowe’s Thames Valley office has not been limited to the corporate finance team. People numbers in its central Reading office have increased overall to service an ever increasing and diverse client base.

Office managing partner Jeremy Cooper said: “As a demonstration of our continued commitment to the Thames Valley business community, we continue to execute our growth strategy with the appointment of a number of high-calibre individuals to the most senior levels (partner and director) within our firm, along with additional team members required to support them. We are an important and leading professional firm within our region, providing the full range of accountancy services through a team of more than 90 partners and employees in the Thames Valley. This level of growth is consistent with the ‘double digit’ annual increases we have seen here over recent years, and is also consistent with the expansion plans we have in place for the next five years.

“We have a business model that I am proud of, which is focused on quality and client service. Our clients consistently tell us how much they value the level of involvement they receive from our partners, and the fact that they get direct access to the most senior people in our firm as and when they need it. We are not just partner-led, but genuinely partner engaged.”

Cooper remains positive about the future: “We start this financial year in good health, and look forward to the opportunities that exist for us in the year ahead.”

Crowe Clark Whitehill is the UK member firm of Crowe Horwath International, ranked as the eighth largest global accountancy network, with more than 35,000 partners and employees, based in 805 offices across 130 countries. It has a vast global footprint able to serve its clients’ needs wherever they choose to do business.

Out of the Thames Valley office, Crowe provides audit, corporate and indirect taxes, accounting and outsourced services, corporate finance, recovery and restructuring, and financial planning and personal tax.
