Maidenhead: Council leader to take key role in regeneration project
The leader of the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead will take on the Maidenhead regeneration portfolio and take up the lead member position for Maidenhead as plans for a full transformation of the town, including a £2 billion regeneration, gather pace.
Simon Dudley will now oversee all elements of the portfolio including large-scale regeneration plans. His role will ensure that the plans being developed for Maidenhead have a single point of contact.
The announcement has come as, after years of waiting, planning applications for the York Road and Landing sites are expected to be determined over the coming months, as well as public sessions for how the Broadway car park will be developed and as the Braywick Leisure Centre build moves to the next stages.
Dudley said: “By taking on this portfolio I will be able to ensure that the plans being developed for Maidenhead, which have been years in the making, are given the oversight and leadership they need at this crucial time and ensure we build a town that truly is for everyone.”
The position was previously held by David Evans, who is stepping down to allow him to pursue other political interests. Evans will remain a ward councillor for Hurley and The Walthams.
