Maidenhead: Plans for 2,000 homes get green light

An emerging Maidenhead Golf Course masterplan for delivering essential housing and infrastructure in the borough was approved this week.

At an extraordinary meeting of the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead, members agreed to take the next steps toward finding a joint venture partner to help progress plans for the 132-acre site.

The development plan could create up to 2,000 new homes, with 30% of them affordable, within walking distance of the town centre and close to the train station through which the new Elizabeth line (Crossrail) will run from 2019.

Jack Rankin, cabinet member for economic development, property and deputy for finance, said: “We are building a borough for everyone and the emerging masterplan for Maidenhead Golf Course is an important part of how we plan to do that.”

Members of the public were also invited to ask councillors questions about the emerging plans at the meeting.

Simon Dudley, leader of the council, said: “I’m delighted we are now able to progress this scheme to the next stage and set out the framework for finding a partner who can help us to deliver the vision for what we want to provide on this strategic site.

“We made sure that as many people as possible could speak and ask questions but this is only the first step in the process and there will be plenty of opportunities for residents, businesses and other local stakeholders to work with us on this important project for the borough.”

The council agreed to a series of recommendations relating to the project including a budget for acquiring properties that will benefit future access to the site.
