Judith Rountree, solicitor in the dispute resolution team at Gardner Leader, has been crowned Young Lawyer of the Year at this year's LawNetawards, the national industry body and standard for independent law firms.

The Young Lawyer of the Year award category was open to solicitors with less than five years' post-qualification experience.

Aged 30 with four years post qualification experience, Rountree was chosen as winner because of her determination to succeed and advanced legal skills - qualities that have helped her to win complex, contentious probate cases.

Her strong communication skills and the compassion and commitment she shows her clients were also highlighted as winning attributes along with her innovation in business development. Since joining Gardner Leader in September 2009, Rountree has developed a new fixed-fee programme to help landlords and tenants involved in property litigation. Meanwhile, her work in the charity sector has seen her attract and retain some of the largest charity clients the firm has ever represented.

Rountree's award comes just weeks after Chris Dale, solicitor in the firm's residential property team, came second in the Young Conveyancer of the Year Award at this year's national Law Firm Services (LFS) conveyancing awards.

John Thomas, chief executive of LawNet, commented on Rountree's award: "Competition was tough this year. We received the highest number of entries we've ever had for this category with some really strong contenders. Judith stood out as a worthy winner because of her drive, her achievements and her ability to show empathy during a time that can often be daunting and extremely worrying for clients."

On winning the award, Rountree said, “I am absolutely thrilled. Litigation can be a very stressful time for many people, so it is extremely reassuring to receive recognition not only from clients who supported my award application, but also from the national LawNet network.”
