Oxon: Venturefest explores climate change
Climate change, and how it affects the way we do business, features at Venturefest 2007, the annual two-day conference for entrepreneurs and investors (July 2-3, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Oxfordshire). Conference speakers, including The Carbon Trust, will look at evidence of what is happening to the environment and address how high-tech businesses can capitalise on opportunities arising from climate change.
As always, the event continues to both showcase and provide resources for today’s young and fast-growth enterprises.
Commenting on the event’s developing profile, Venturefest chairman professor Russell Smith said: “Venturefest celebrates innovation and promotes the commercialisation of new technology. It also provides a platform for early-stage enterprises and entrepreneurs to meet potential funders. But like all successful enterprises, Venturefest must also evolve and respond to market needs. This year, our programme reflects that by addressing contemporary issues, such as climate change.”
Also new to Venturefest 2007 is the Venturefest Village - a unique collection of exhibitions, presentations and networking activities designed to engage and create dialogue among attendees. In parallel to presentations by organisations seeking growth funding, the event runs short, informative seminars on how to grow and manage a business, addressing issues including marketing, human resources, finance and legal requirements.
Venturefest’s 2007 keynote speech will be given by Sir Digby Jones, former Director-General of the Confederation of British Industry and the UK’s ‘voice of business’.
Sir Digby said: “I am delighted to be taking part in Venturefest 2007. Britain has become one of the world's favourite locations to take forward ideas, maximise innovation, raise capital and succeed. But we must keep it that way! That calls for government policy to create an environment where innovation can flourish and an education system that delivers the right kind of people. Putting the ball in the net is this country's challenge in the years ahead."
