While these companies don‘t appear in our Solent 250, they stand under the umbrella of Ones to Watch, businesses that are likely to gain a higher profile as they are picked up on the local economic radar.

The R&D Factory invents, develops and commercialises socially responsible products and processes which generate quantifiable environmental benefits and reduce material and energy costs. It creates income from the sale/license of its products and IP. Its latest product, Streamoulding , retro fits to existing injection moulding equipment and uses water in an innovative way to foam plastic which reduces material usage and energy costs by up to 40%.

Fresh Therapies, which has just launched an environmentally friendly nail varnish remover which has already generated a lot of interest, has plans to develop a range of cosmetic products that do not use environmentally harmful chemicals.

South Boats Special Projects
South Boats (part of South Boats Group) designs and builds aluminium workboats and has a commanding position in the emerging offshore wind turbine servicing market. It aims to take 50% of this market and is developing licensed manufacturing of its designs in other markets as a way of expanding its growth rate. Projected turnover for 2012 is in the region of £30 million.
