Does your business operate commercial vehicles like vans and lorries as part of your everyday business?  If so, you can make sure you are up to speed with the very latest in legislation and developments covering vehicle operations and transport in general, by attending the Freight Transport Association's Transport Manager conference, to be held at Macdonald Botley Park, Southampton on October 3.

The nationwide conference series, sponsored by Bridgestone Tyres, offers a unique insight into issues relevant to those using vehicles as part of their daily work, and includes expert advice and guidance from leading industry speakers.  It is the ideal way for anyone running a truck or van fleet, however large or small and whatever their industry, to ensure they are up-to-date on the latest developments.

The Southampton event will include a keynote address by the Traffic Commissioner for London and the south east, Sarah Bell, who is responsible for the licensing and regulation of those who operate heavy goods vehicles, buses and coaches.  Mrs Bell will talk about the Traffic Commissioners' priorities for the year ahead, and what businesses need to do to keep within the law.

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) - the Government's road safety enforcement agency - will answer transport managers' most pressing questions from the 2018 Transport Manager Survey in video interviews with DVSA directors. Other subjects to be covered include the Earned Recognition scheme, Clean Air Zones, lowering emissions, Brexit, managing your maintenance provider, smart tachographs and much more.

James Firth, FTA's head of road freight regulation policy, said: "These events are an essential tool to help anyone operating commercial vehicles to stay up-to-date with ever-changing legislation and good practice.  Whether or not your business is involved in the transport sector, if you operate a vehicle, they are relevant to you. The programme is designed to include all the latest legislation changes and other information those responsible for commercial vehicles might need to know, and FTA's experts are on hand to offer plenty of advice."

Also sponsored by Brigade Electronics and Microlise, Transport Manager 2018 will be held from September to November across 10 UK venues - full details can be found at https://fta.co.uk/tm2018

Efficient logistics is vital to keep Britain trading, directly having an impact on more than seven million people employed in the making, selling and moving of goods. With Brexit, new technology and other disruptive forces driving change in the way goods move across borders and through the supply chain, logistics has never been more important to UK plc. A champion and challenger, FTA speaks to Government with one voice on behalf of the whole sector, with members from the road, rail, sea and air industries, as well as the buyers of freight services such as retailers and manufacturers.
