Southampton: PwC staff devote May to local charities
For PwC the month of May 2013 is an opportunity for staff across the UK to donate time and raise money for local social enterprises in the communities around their offices. To this end the Southampton PwC staff are working with Mayfield Nurseries Solent Mind and Cockleshell Community Sports Club to help them raise their profile, sell wonderful products grown from seed and help to renovate both the nurseries and club.
Ian Wishart, office senior partner who is leading the activities in Southampton, said: “The aim of this event is to make a long-lasting impact in our local community by sharing vital business skills with social entrepreneurs and through fundraising to help the most disadvantaged people.
"In Southampton, we will be renovating Cockleshell Community Sports Club and Mayfield Nurseries throughout the whole of May. We will also be at Bitterne Market every Wednesday selling plants grown from seed, hanging baskets, tubs and pots to raise funds for Mayfield Nurseries Solent Mind, with over 150 volunteers from our office. We hope events like this give our people the chance to learn about the difference social enterprises make in their local communities and how we can support them."
Mayfield Nurseries is a working plant nursery and a social enterprise located close to Southampton city centre within the walls of Mayfield Park, and is a subsidiary charity of Solent Mind, the leading mental health charity across Hampshire.
Cockleshell Community Sports Club is a registered charitable trust, formed to maintain Eastney Playing Fields (EPF) following its acquisition from the MOD by Portsmouth City Council in 2011. The 20.4 acres of secure, well-maintained facilities benefit local users such as schools and sports-based clubs.
