Southampton: South Central bags John Lewis delivery hub
The build-to-suit facility will provide John Lewis with additional capacity to service Southampton and the wider south coast region.
This is the first leasing deal signed at South Central, which comprises three facilities totalling 202,000 sq ft.
Rockspring Property Investment Managers acted on behalf of Rockspring TransEuropean Property Limited Partnership.
John Lewis’ facility will be completed by September 2018. Construction of the two other facilities (117,000 sq ft and 39,000 sq ft) is underway on a speculative basis and they are expected to be completed by May 2018.
Neil Dickinson, of Peel Logistics Property, said: “This leasing deal with John Lewis is another example of Peel Logistics Property’s capability in delivering high-quality urban logistics facilities for leading UK occupiers. We look forward to welcoming other tenants to South Central as construction progresses.”
South Central is an urban logistics development being delivered by Peel Logistics Property. The site is targeted at port-centric occupiers in the distribution and storage sectors and those serving the wider south coast conurbations.
There are two remaining facilities available for occupation in May 2018 (117,000 sq ft and 39,000 sq ft).
TEP V acquired the site in 2016 as part of a broader Europe-wide urban and hub logistics strategy and is expecting to complete construction in mid-2018.
The 46,000 sq ft letting to JLP follows the recent 73,000 sq ft letting to Argos, the British catalogue retailer, at Rockspring’s Island Road logistics development in Reading. The firm has assembled a portfolio of similar properties totalling 1,751,108 sq ft across six countries since 2014.
Mark Krol, assistant director at Rockspring, said: “Securing such a high-profile business as JLP so early in the process is a major achievement for the team and, we feel, provides a strong endorsement of both the location and the quality of the planned building. We hope to be able to announce further commitments in the very near future.”
Lambert Smith Hampton and Jones Lang LaSalle acted for Peel Logistics Property and Rockspring. Colliers acted for John Lewis.
