Portsmouth’s, Lakeside North Harbour, has planted ten new trees as part of  The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) initiative.

Created to mark The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, the QGC invites people across the country to ‘Plant a Tree for the Jubilee’. The initiative celebrates Her Majesty’s 70 years of leadership by enhancing the natural environment.

Ten Lakeside campus businesses each sponsored a Pyrus Chanticlear tree as part of the commemorative project. The ornamental pear trees were sustainably sourced from a local supplier in Romsey and produce bee-friendly blush to white flowers.

Businesses participating in the Lakeside North Harbour celebration also contributed £500 to The Woodland Trust, the UK’s largest woodland conservation charity.

A landmark moment in British history, The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in February saw Her Majesty The Queen become the first British monarch to reach the milestone. As with Her Majesty’s previous Jubilees, official celebrations will be held in June.

Simon Bateman, asset manager at Lakeside North Harbour, commented: “We feel very fortunate to be able to experience this incredible moment in British history.

“At Lakeside, we wanted to honour Her Majesty’s service to the nation and celebrate her Platinum Jubilee in a way that complimented our values of sustainability and wellbeing. The Queen’s Green Canopy initiative was the perfect way to mark the occasion while improving our environment.”

Lakeside’s 130-acre campus features an abundance of wildlife and biodiverse habitats within its grounds. Bateman added: “We consider our grounds and immediate proximity to blue and green space to be one of our most important assets in terms of living our values, supporting employee health and wellbeing and creating workspaces fit for the future.

“We would like to thank all of the businesses based at our campus who sponsored a tree. Not only will these beautiful, bee-friendly trees enhance the biodiversity of our grounds, but they will grow and blossom for future generations to enjoy.”

Those businesses who sponsored a tree are: Carrington West, Visitor Chat, Astute Technical Recruitment, Proagrica, Markerstudy, Hippo Waste, Rosslyndata, Spb UK, The Village Hotel, and Smooth Accounting.
