Nursling: Lidl to build major distribution centre next to M271
Private family landlord Barker-Mill Estates is set to exchange on the sale of a 28-acre site to make way for one of the South Coast’s largest distribution hubs – a 450,000 sq ft warehouse for German supermarket giant Lidl. Test Valley Borough Council has approved Lidl’s plans to build a state-of-the-art distribution centre on the site at Nursling next to the M271, near Southampton in Hampshire.
Oliver McGuinness, regional property director, Lidl, said: “We are delighted that our proposal has been given the full backing of both Test Valley Borough Council and Southampton City Council.
“This is a very positive step in delivering hundreds of new jobs for the region, and we are looking forward to working with local councilors, residents and businesses and making this a real success story for the area.”
David Fletcher, assistant director for Economic Development at Hampshire County Council, said: "Hampshire's south-central location and excellent transport links make the county an obvious choice for distribution hubs. By investing in Hampshire, Lidl will benefit from the county's two major motorways enabling easy access for its operations along the south coast and north into Berkshire."
