Theale: Direct Wines increases sales in global push

Direct Wines, the Theale-based wine business, has increased sales to £353 million, latest results show, mainly because of growth in international markets.  The company, which features at number nine in the Thames Valley 250, has seen a record increase in sales in the United States where it is now the largest mail-order wine business.

Direct Wines has been expanding successfully in many overseas territories, among the latest being the growing Indian market.

Its marketing brands include Laithwaites, the Sunday Times Wine Club and Virgin Wines. The company began in 1969 as Bordeaux Direct. Currently it employs nearly 1,000 people.
